"This print is a continuation of my series of trees with hidden stories including Sikhova, Poacher’s Adversary and Muskeljaatkat. I have used the striking form of a marula tree from the Mpumalanga Lowveld to frame a porcupine. In siSwati ‘Injelwane’ is porcupine and is a direct reference to the animal’s sharp spines. Porcupines fascinate me because they are remarkably resilient to human alterations of the landscape, crossing under electric fences, biting irrigation pipes to get water and eating plants from suburban gardens all without being seen by people. Injelwane is a tribute to these bizarre giant rodents." Simon Attwood, 2022
